The Position: Software Quality Assurance Manager

At Arteric, our interactive quality assurance/quality control team is responsible for ensuring that all deliverables meet or exceed Arteric’s internal quality standards as well as our clients’ standards. Arteric services biotechnology and pharmaceutical brands that operate in highly regulated markets. This requires that we place an extraordinary value on the consistency and the quality of every deliverable, from PowerPoint files to manuscripts to sophisticated feature-rich Web applications. We are looking for a software quality assurance (QA) manager who will be responsible for implementing and overseeing all QA processes and activities that are required to support our mission and exceed Arteric’s and our clients’ standards for software and user experience quality.

The software QA manager will provide general supervision and technical guidance to the QA staff in the analysis, design, testing, and deployment of all Web and mobile applications. The software QA manager maintains ultimate responsibility for assuring that all products are defect-free and compliant with requirements. The software QA manager will develop and drive a high-level QA strategy, as well as taking a hands-on approach to implementing that strategy. The software QA manager will create, implement, maintain, and enhance test plans, test scripts, and test methodologies that ensure exhaustive testing of all assigned websites, Web applications, and mobile applications to ensure compliance with business specifications. The software QA manager will collaborate with the project manager, account management, and developers to gather and clarify requirements.


Project Management

  • Manage the planning and execution of product testing efforts, including all associated resources to meet committed delivery dates
  • Provide effective communication regarding issues, objectives, initiatives, and performance to plan
  • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive test plans to ensure that software requirements are met
  • Work with project managers to develop project schedules and resource allocation models
  • Be responsible and accountable for flagging the timing of interdepartmental deliverables and the quality of their output
  • Ensure that the team is optimally occupied with work. Track the assigned tasks with respect to the software test plan and the project schedule
  • Retain skilled resources by demonstrating leadership and providing guidance to junior team members to help them grow
  • Communicate QA status of multiple concurrent projects

Process Management

  • Maintain product consistency throughout the system development life cycle (SDLC), to include the design, define, and build phases through quality checkpoints and testing
  • Develop and manage quality assurance metrics for performance improvement for all team members
  • Implement ongoing quality improvement processes by collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Anticipate potential functional and user experience (UX) problems by creating exhaustive test scenarios that ensure comprehensive testing
  • Manage QA processes that validate the product across all environments from development to testing to staging to production

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Manage and respond to software quality assurance issues across all functional groups
  • Directly supervise the quality assurance team, including the preparation and delivery of staff performance evaluations and career development activities
  • Manage department and overall expectations pertaining to setting accurate schedules, costs, and resources
  • Collaborate with developers to improve overall product quality by emphasizing defect prevention throughout the development process
  • Ensure delivery against QA department goals and objectives, (ie, meeting commitments and coordinating overall quality assurance schedule)

Quality Management & Development

  • Develop software quality test plans and test cases, and lead in setting and maintaining the standards for software quality assurance test documentation
  • Assure the viability, functionality, and effectiveness of essential tools
  • Anticipate program release problems and take corrective action, escalating as needed, to resolve and achieve commitments
  • Establish and maintain policy for documentation of websites, mobile apps and Web applications
  • Maintain a high degree of error-free programs, procedures, systems, and documentation on all software application releases
  • Document all testing results in conjunction with test plans
  • Coordinate and lead 3rd party QA support venders, their deliverables, and relationships

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or related technical field (in lieu of degree, relevant skills or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in software testing (manual/automated)
  • Deep experience with and knowledge of automation tools like Selenium (Webdriver)
  • Strong knowledge of content management platforms (WordPress and Drupal), Web technology, and HTML5
  • At least 8 to 12 years of experience in building and developing elegant test cases in the fast Web interfaces
  • At least 2 years of experience in leading, developing, and managing a QA department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of functional and regression testing
  • Experience in using bug-tracking tools like Jira
  • Mobile Web and mobile application testing
  • Expert understanding of Web technologies and cross-browser testing
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Experience with automated browser testing tools such as Selenium
  • Experience with software release management, software quality assurance management, and system testing
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Internet/Web protocols and application programming interfaces (APIs)
  • Knowledge of QA methodologies and technologies and testing procedures
  • Experience in automation, technologies and tools and the ability to drive automation initiatives
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with implementation and administration of software quality assurance metrics
  • Knowledge of Internet and Web processes, disciplines, and standards
  • Must be extremely detail-oriented with respect to documentation and communication
  • Should have expert knowledge in automated testing, experience/knowledge of TestComplete, QTP, Selenium, performance and regression testing, and exploratory testing
  • Knowledge of command line interface, application programming interface, graphical user interface, requirements management tools, test management tools, defect tracking tools, functional system test automation tools, performance system test automation tools
